The Islamic Centre of Oshawa is a registered charity (BN# 888930641 RR0001) in good standing as legislated under the Canadian Income Tax Act.  Charity information returns have been filed on a yearly basis and are available for public viewing on the Canada Revenue Agency website (www.cra.gc.ca). 

As many of you may be aware, the Islamic Centre of Oshawa is planning on undertaking a NEW MASJID PROJECT.  Islam is a beautiful religion.  Everything about Islam is beautiful.  A masjid is a sign of Islam.  How then, can we sit idle while the House of Allah falls apart? 

Alhamdulillah, after consulting with the Muslim community in Oshawa and surrounding areas, we have decided to dedicate all our efforts into establishing a new Islamic Centre of Oshawa.  We ask all brothers and sisters to remember this project in their prayers.

The following are reasons why establishing a new Islamic Centre of Oshawa is an absolute necessity:

1. The current masjid is in an extremely dire condition.  The structure is deteriorating by the day and is beginning to fall apart both inside and out.
2. The current masjid has been officially categorized as a "Heritage B" property by the City of Oshawa.  This means that it is on the City's list of properties which could potentially be designated a full-fledged HISTORICAL SITE.  If declared a HISTORICAL SITE, we would be prohibited from undertaking any new masjid projects.
3. The current facility is not adequate enough to meet the needs of the masjid attendees.  With limitations in both space and layout, the current masjid has no accommodations for sisters.  Furthermore, many brothers are forced to offer their Jumma and Eidain prayers in the basement as space in the main prayer hall is limited.  Finally, there are no dedicated classrooms for children's evening Qur'an and Fiqh classes.
4. Their are no accommodations for persons with physical disabilities and impairments.
5. A new, beautiful masjid is needed to reflect our beautiful Deen of Islam.
